Many of the chronic diseases that exist today are attributed to unhealthy lifestyle behaviors (i.e., smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, lack of exercise, lack of fiber and too much sodium and saturated fat in the diet, etc.). These diseases include certain cancers (e.g., prostate, colon, breast, liver, lungs, uterine, etc.), heart disease, stroke, obesity, type-2 diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and diverticulitis.
